Amanda Andrews Benefits to Using Silicone Hybrids for Improvements to Wood Coatings
Abstract

Wacker Chemical Corporation

The life expectancy of a wood is reduced by the degradation due to sun light accompanied with water and biological attack; however the use of exterior durable stains and paints aid in their protection. The addition of a silicone hybrid based emulsion in paints or stains increases the durability of the coating which further extends the protection of the cellulosic based substrate. Using homogenous distribution of fine particle silicone organic hybrid technology increases the durability of acrylic, alkyd, or alkyd acrylic resin based coatings. This article will demonstrate the benefits accompanied with utilizing compatible silicone hybrid resin technology in formulations designed for protection of cellulosic based substrates.
