| Dr. Derek Patton earned his B.S. in Chemistry from Jacksonville State University in 2000 and his M.S. in Chemistry from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2002. In 2006, Derek completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Houston, where his dissertation research focused on the design and synthesis of functional polymers using controlled radical polymerization techniques. Derek then joined the Polymers Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as a National Research Council Postdoctoral Associate. Derek joined the School of Polymers and High Performance Materials at the University of Southern Mississippi as an Assistant Professor in 2008. In 2011, Derek was the recipient of an NSF CAREER award which provides support in the area of polymer surface engineering. | |||
