Anthropology Society

The Southern Miss Anthropology Society is an organization open to all people interested in anthropology. Our officers are undergraduate majors who are full-time students. Graduate students in the society act as advisers to the undergraduate officers.

The purpose of the Southern Miss Anthropology Society is to provide a group in which people of similar interests can socialize and exchange ideas. The Anthropology Society currently has three committees that function to ensure that the needs of the society are met. The Activities Committee serves to plan and execute group activities, including educational and recreational functions. The Fund-Raising Committee is dedicated to planning fund-raising projects that keep our society financially able to engage in other activities. The Outreach Committee serves to make anthropological knowledge available to local high schools and libraries by engaging in discussions, lectures, and public awareness projects. Some examples of various activities that the Anthropology Society engages in are guest lectures, which are open to the public; an undergraduate symposium, which is held annually; campouts and canoe trips to cap off the semester when warm weather returns.

The Anthropology Society is a great place to meet friends and enjoy the company of other students and professors who share a common interest: the discipline of anthroplogy.
