MRS. TREST AT SRS 145
The Reading Conference is an intensive course over a five day period
for which students get 3 hours of credit. ANYONE TAKING THIS
COURSE FOR CREDIT MUST HAVE COMPLETED AT LEAST 6 HOURS OF READING
COURSES. Students must attend every class, arrive on time,
and stay for the entire day in order to participate in the sessions,
learn the material being presented, and earn all of the points available.
NO ONE IS EXCUSED FOR ANY REASON . Please do not
ask for an excused absence. The answer will be no. This may seem somewhat
harsh, but one must remember the intensive nature of the course: One
day in this course is the equivalent of several weeks of a regular
semester course. Anyone who misses a day of the reading conference
will have his/her grade dropped by one letter. If you already know
you will not be able to meet the attendance policy, you are advised
to take the class another summer. The Reading Conference is offered
every summer.
The conference generally consists of three components. The two Saturdays
are spent examining and discussing the assigned text through lecture
and small group activities. Each day of the Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
sessions will begin with a keynote speaker in the morning followed
by several breakout sessions operating all at once. That format will
repeat after lunch. All of the speakers have been chosen for their
extensive knowledge of literacy, and the breakout sessions have been
planned to give the participants choice.
