Dr. LaPierre’s research focuses on the history of social control and deviance in Khrushchev’s Russia. His publications include “Private Matters or Public Crimes: The Rise of Domestic Hooliganism in the Soviet Union, 1939-1966” in Lewis H. Siegelbaum ed., Borders of Socialism: Private Spheres of Soviet Russia (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2006), 191-210 and “Making Hooliganism on a Mass Scale: The Campaign Against Petty Hooliganism in the Soviet Union, 1956-1964” Cahiers du monde russe, 1-2 (2006): 1-28. He has been the recipient of grants and fellowships from the Fulbright-Hays Foundation, the Mellon Foundation and the International Research and Exchange Board. Currently, Dr. LaPierre is revising his dissertation “Redefining Deviance: Hooliganism in Khrushchev’s Russia, 1953-1964” into a publishable book manuscript.
