S H S Welcomes New Graduate Students

August 18, 2008- Fall classes officially began on Wednesday, August 20th, but our new graduate students were in the classroom earlier during the week for the department's fall orientation. This year's two-day marathon was special in that we welcomed the very first class of students in our new masters program in Education of the Deaf.

A variety of speakers from SHS including The Children's Center and The DuBard School provided our participants with a host of information regarding the "workings" of the department. Discussion topics ran the gamut from time management and code of ethics to ASHA's Knowledge and Skills Assessment [ K A S A ] outcomes.

With new faculty and lots of new students, this year promises to be one of the most challenging that we've ever faced. We can feel the excitement in the hallways.

By the way... In case we didn't get a chance to say it to you earlier, whether you're a graduate or undergraduate: "Welcome to Southern Miss! Have a great semester!"
