  • We use permission lists, so you may not enroll in a course unless your name is on the permission list. However, because of the list, the course may display as 'closed' - this only means that all the seats are filled with permissions. If you were given permission, you should be able to enroll even if the section indicates 'closed'.

  • The virtual classroom chat schedule is posted in SouthernMiss@TheLibrarySchool in the coursesites.blackboard.com courseware, check under the Information button from the main menu.

  • Students should make sure that they are enrolled in the SouthernMiss@TheLibrarySchool coursesite, and that they check the site weekly. Important semester dates are posted in the site, as are a variety of other resources.

  • SLIS offers the 21-credit hour Mississippi Supplemental Endorsement for School Library Media Specialists and the master's degree completely online.

  • Retired elementary teacher donates $1.1 million to the Children's Book Festival. Fay Kaigler, a long-time supporter of the festival and the university, taught in the public schools of California and Mississippi for 33 years. She first attended the festival at the invitation of her friend Ruth Lamont, a children's librarian from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In 1998 they established the Kaigler-Lamont Award through the Children's Book Festival to recognize teachers and librarians for distinguished accomplishments in promoting children's reading. More recently, Fay Kaigler, has made a major gift that will ensure a bright future for the Festival.
