Vice President for External Affairs
Chad Driskell currently serves as the Vice President for External Affairs. In this role, he oversees the government relations, economic development and veterans’ student affairs portfolio for The University of Southern Mississippi.
Driskell started his career in 1994 with the Mississippi Gaming Commission, Mississippi’s casino regulatory agency, during an unprecedented time of economic prosperity. The gaming industry developed and the industry matured into a significant sector of the state’s economy.
After leaving the regulatory arm of the casino industry, Driskell served for over a decade as senior vice president for the Mississippi Bankers Association, where he managed a comprehensive government relations program as well as a political action committee. The Mississippi Bankers Association is a state wide trade association that represents over $35 billion in commercial bank assets.
In 2007, he returned to his alma mater, The University of Southern Mississippi, to continue his career in government relations, public policy and economic development.
Driskell holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from The University of Southern Mississippi and a master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration from Mississippi State University.
The Vice President for External Affairs has management and oversight for the following areas:
- Center for Military Veterans, Service Members & Families at Southern Miss
- Southern Miss Alumni Association
- Trent Lott National Center for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship
- USM Foundation
The Office of the Vice President for External Affairs has been relocated to the Ogletree House (map) while repairs are made to the Aubrey K. Lucas Administration Building.
