Sociology B.A./B.S.

At Southern Miss students can earn either a BA or a BS (effective fall 2010) in Sociology. For the complete list of requirements please see the full degree plan. All Sociology majors (BA and BS) must take a total of 33 semester hours in the department. These hours must include:

  • SOC 101: Introduction to Sociology (3 hours)
  • SOC 401: Senior Capstone (3 hours)
  • SOC 460: Quantitative Methods (3 hours)
  • SOC 462: Methods of Social Research (3 hours)
  • SOC 482: Sociological Theory (3 hours)
  • Sociology Electives (18 hours)

Additionally, all students must complete a minor in another area (usually 18 to 21 hours.

Students will need to schedule a total of 15 to 18 hours per semester to graduate in eight terms. Please see your adviser for more details.
