Mr. Charles S. Mitchell

Army ROTC MSIII Instructor

Mr. Chuck Mitchell is a native of Fairview Park, Ohio and is currently a resident of Oak Gove, Mississippi.  He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in 1987 from the United States Military Academy.  He graduated from West Point with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (Micro Circuit Material Design).  In 2007 he earned a Master of Science degree in Operations Research from the School of Industrial Engineering at Georgia Tech.  He has also earned a Management of Technology Certificate.  His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Airborne School, Ranger School, Advanced Airborne School, Infantry Mortar Platoon Course, Jungle Warfare Course, Northern Warfare Course, the Combined Arms Services and Staff School, the Command and General Staff College, Army Strategist Identifier, School of Cadet Command, and Faculty Development Course.

Mr. Mitchell has more than 22 years of active service and served in numerous types of infantry units, to include airborne, motorized, and mechanized.  He served as the Airborne Rifle Platoon Leader, Airborne Mortar Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Battalion Logistical Officer, Troop Commander, Assistant Professor of Industrial Engineering, Division Operations Officer, Battalion Executive Officer, Task Force Senior Analyst, Deputy Senior Task Force Observer Controller, Chief of Operations, and Professor of Military Science and Leadership.  He participated in the Cold War, Operations Just Cause, Operation Desert Shield, and Operation Desert Storm.  He is currently working as the Operations Officer and MS III Instructor for the University of Southern Mississippi Army ROTC Program.

Mr. Mitchell’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (2 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2 OLC), Meritorious Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal (2 Stars), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Spearhead), Southwest Asia Service Medal (2 Stars), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Saudi Arabian Kuwaiti Liberation Medal,  Kuwaiti Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Mississippi Magnolia Medal.  Mr. Mitchell has also earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, and Senior Parachutist Badge (Combat Star).

Mr. Mitchell is married to the former Shannon Linn of Boggy Bayou, Florida.  The Mitchell’s have two sons, Nate  and Bear.  He volunteers as a youth sports coach, Assistance Scoutmaster, Mississippi Hunters’ Education Instructor, and worker for Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Grove.  Chuck’s hobbies include backpacking, swimming, hunting, fishing, military history, reading, investing, and travel.
