Food Insecurity

The Eagle's Nest Food Pantry

The Eagle's Nest Food Pantry needs volunteers Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and some Tuesdays.  Email jennifer.lewisFREEMississippi for the Doodle poll to sign up.  For more information, see The Eagles Nest Food Pantry webpage.

The Pantry also needs donations.  To find out what items are needed and how to donate- please see https://www.usm.edu/social-work/eagles-nest-food-pantry.php 

The Pantry is also in need of recycled grocery bags.

Produce Picking at the Kelley Settlement

Every 2 days individuals go at around sunrise to pick produce that is delivered to local pantries, including the Eagle's Nest Food Pantry.  If you are interested in participating, contact James%20Skinner.

Animals

The Mylo Foundation

The Mylo Foundation a dog rescue organization that saves dogs from shelters on the Coast including the kill-shelters is in need of volunteers in the areas of social media, networking and fundraising.  If interested, fill out the application using the link below

Hub City Humane Society

Hub City Humane Society rescues hundreds of dogs each year and finds them homes.  Volunteers are needed to help dogs who will be transported to areas where they are at an increased likelihood of finding a home.  Fosters are also needed.  The shelter is also in need of donations- see the following link-Hub City Humane Society Amazon wish list.

To apply to volunteer, fill out their volunteer application and join their Facebook group by clicking the Volunteer Facebook group link.

To help them raise money, download WoofTrax and select Hub City Humane as your charity.

Southern Pines Animal Shelter

Southern Pines Animal Shelter conducts transports across the country.  They are needing drivers aged 21 or older who have a valid drivers license.  Contact their volunteer coordinator for additional information.

    Southern Miss Comcast Golf Classic

    Date:  10/5/19

    Location:  Canebrake Country Club

    Description:  Each year, the tournament raises funds for more than 30 scholarships and stipends to benefit Southern Miss students.  Your help is needed to make this year’s event a success.

     

    Eagle's Nest Food Pantry Donation Drive

    October 14th through October 24th.

    Join the USM Association of Office Professionals in helping stock the Eagle’s Nest Food Pantry.

    Items needed include:

    • Canned fruit
    • Canned milk
    • Canned meats (tuna, chicken, etc.)
    • Peanut butter and jelly
    • Boxed or individual servings of mac and cheese
    • Spaghetti sauce and noodles
    • Shelf-stable prepared meals (beef stew, ravioli, lasagna, vegetarian meals, etc.)
    • Hygiene items (shampoo, toothpaste, tooth brushes, soap, deodorant, etc.)
    • School supplies (pens, 3-hole punched paper, spiral notebooks, etc.)
    • Dog food
    • Baby food 
    • Diapers

    Donation boxes in Hattiesburg are located in the following locations:

    Barnes and Noble Bookstore (1st floor by registers)
    Century Park North (1st floor lobby)
    Cook Library (1st floor lobby)
    International Building (1st floor inside Einstein Brother’s Bagels/Zoca)
    Liberal Arts Building (1st floor lobby)
    Moffitt Health Center (lobby)
    Payne Center (lobby)
    Scianna Hall (1st floor)
    Wilber Hall (1st floor lobby)
     

    Donation boxes on the Gulf Park Campus are located in the following locations:
