Pre-Health Profession Information

Students intent on a professional career in Medicine, Dentistry, Optometry, Veterinary Medicine, Dental Hygiene, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Cytotechnology, and Health Informatics and Information Management typically major in Biological Sciences for at least two reasons:

  • You are enthusiastic about the life sciences
  • You recognize that coursework in the biological sciences is essential preparation for health professional school.

Students interested in health professions should contact the College of Science and Technology’s Pre-Professions Office located in Dean's Office complex Chain Technology 100. The Pre-Professional Office helps students prepare for careers in a variety of health-care fields by discussing strategies for success and offering assistance with course selection, schedule planning, and the application process.

Most medical and dental schools now require the applicants have up-close, clinical experience with practitioners. Toward that end, the College offers the Stephen Hatten Pre-Medical Externship for pre-medical students and a comparable Pre-Dental Externship for pre-dental students.

Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) is the National Health Preprofessional Honor Society dedicated to the encouragement and recognition of excellence in preprofessional health scholarship. The Society welcomes ALL students engaged in the pursuit of a professional healthcare career.
