Academic Services

Appointments are required in order to see an advisor!

The Academic Services Office functions as a "mini admissions and registrar's" office for prospective and current business students. Friendly office personnel provide academic counseling to students prior to admission and throughout the duration of their academic career in the College of Business at Southern Miss.

Students can meet with their academic advisor every semester to monitor progress toward their degree goals. The academic advisors also give referrals for social, financial, and career counseling needs.

For specific career counseling, or for more information on what opportunities each major holds, please contact Ms. Amy Yeend, Assistant Director for Career Services in the College of Business at 601.266.5931.

Students can meet with their academic advisor every semester to monitor progress toward their degree goals.  Advisors are happy to teach students how to track and monitor progress toward degrees, as well as how to provide parents access to their SOAR accounts via the Parent Portal (PDF).

Your advisor is determined by your degree program:

Mrs. Lisa Lowery: General Business, Entrepreneurship, Merchandising, Tourism, and Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management.

Mrs. Meghan Mee: Business Administration Management, Healthcare Marketing, Human Resource Management, International Business, Supply Chain Management

Mr. J. Christian Sweatt: Accounting, Finance, Marketing, Personal Financial Planning, Real Estate, and Sport Management.

Advising appointments with an advisor are REQUIRED for Hattiesburg students, and must be made in person in our office, Scianna Hall 2035, with Cheryl Wenzler, our administrative assistant.  If you are a Gulf Park student, please call 228.214.3447.

No appointments are needed on Wednesday's, which is the weekly walk-in day.

All of our advisors see students (walk-in's, and appointments) from 8:40am until 3:40pm, Monday-Friday. Please come early!

All advisors will use WEDNESDAY'S as their walk-in day.  On this day, students may ask general questions regarding their academics, but they cannot be seen for an advising session.  In order to best serve students for upcoming semester advisement, they will need to make an appointment for one of our group advising sessions located in Scianna Hall, 2035.

Gulf Park and General Business - Online students should call their advisors at 228.214.3447, as their schedules may be slightly different than those on the Hattiesburg campus.

Call the appropriate office for more information.
