Academic Services

Appointments are required in order to see an advisor!

The Academic Services Office in the College of Business & Economic Development handles issues related to academics, including academic advising regarding course selections and the path to graduation, probation/suspension counseling, and other concerns affecting enrollment in business courses.  Academic advisors also give referrals for social, financial, and career counseling needs.

ADVISING

All students are required to meet with their academic advisor each semester to discuss course selections for the next term.  Advisors are happy to teach students how to track and monitor progress toward degrees, as well as how to provide parents access to their SOAR accounts via the Parent Portal (PDF).

ADVISING APPOINTMENTS Advising Schedule

Hattiesburg business students participate in group advising appointments. In addition to confirming course selections for the next semester, students will learn about student success strategies, important events and deadlines, and any policy changes.

Advising appointments with an advisor are required for Hattiesburg students and must be made in person in our office located in Scianna Hall room 2035. To schedule your appointment, you must have a current printed copy of your Degree Progress Report (DPR), an updated semester-by-semester guide, and a completed proposed schedule sheet. These documents will be checked by your advisor prior to your appointment. To obtain a semester-by-semester guide and proposed schedule sheet please visit our office or email your advisor.

Gulf Park and Online Students – Gulf Park students should call their advisor at 228.214.3447, as their schedules may be slightly different than those on the Hattiesburg campus.  Online students can contact Linda Jordan directly at linda.jordan@usm.edu.

WALK-IN SCHEDULE

All advisors will use WEDNESDAYS as their walk-in day.  On this day, students may ask general questions regarding their academics, but they cannot be seen for a full advising session.  In order to best serve students for upcoming semester advisement, they will need to make an appointment for one of our group advising sessions located in Scianna Hall, 2035.

Call the appropriate office for more information.
