Southern Miss alumnus, Dr. Robert Adelman, will be speaking as part of the Department's 40th Anniversary Colloquium Series. In “Immigration Revealed,” Adelman will discuss historical and contemporary facts about immigration to the United States. Harking back to America’s early history as a nation and describing the scale and character of immigration through the 2010s, Adelman’s talk will provide much needed social scientific context for contemporary discussions of immigration. During an era that some scholars are characterizing as “post-fact” political dialogue in the United States, systematic understanding about the facts of immigration debates and the social scientific knowledge surrounding critical issues such as migrant status, crime, group hierarchies and racial identity, are more important now than ever before.
