The School of Social Work participates in the Caribbean Studies Program sponsored by the University’s Center for International Education. The program, currently directed by Dr. Tim Rehner, is a unique opportunity for university students from across disciplines to receive university credit while visiting Cuba, Jamaica or other Caribbean countries. The Caribbean islands are some of the most fascinating countries in the world!
Students will enroll in one of our 3 hour courses in geography, history, marine biology, or social work where they will attend discipline-specific lectures, collective group presentations, and daily visits to selected national museums, historic sites, public artworks, mangroves and coastal beaches, landmarks and human service agencies such as schools, literacy programs, health prevention programs, child welfare, and mental health programs. Additionally, students will have opportunity to take advantage of the beautiful sun, sand, coastal views, and rich urban and rural communities.
