Thank you for your interest in the School of Health Professions at The University of Southern Mississippi. We are excited that you are considering one of our highly esteemed programs that include public health, athletic training, kinesiotherapy, and therapeutic recreation.  

The Dr. Lynn Cook Hartwig Public Health Program offers undergraduate degrees that includes a Bachelor of Science in Public Health with emphasis areas in Health Policy and Administration, Health Education, and Allied Health. Students graduating with an undergraduate degree are prepared to obtain jobs in various health settings, including community health programs, health clinics, hospitals, government-sponsored health programs, and state and local health departments. For the Master’s of Public Health degree, students can choose from three public health emphasis areas: Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Health Promotion and Health Behavior, Health Policy and Administration. Graduates are qualified for upper-level jobs in health administration, research or education in a wide variety of settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, managed care organizations, state and regional health departments, and industry and government agencies.

Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions.

The Kinesiotherapy Program is the only Kinesiotherapy Program in the southeast region of the United States.  Registered kinesiotherapists work closely with health care providers including; physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants. The kinesiotherapy major is an excellent choice if you wish to pursue graduate studies in medicine, physical therapy, occupational therapy, or prosthetics and orthotics.

The Recreational Therapy major is a baccalaureate program that prepares students for certification as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). Graduates with a B.S. degree or higher in Recreational Therapy are eligible to apply to the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) for certification, and are awarded certification upon successful completion of the national exam.

The Athletic Training Program is accredited by the Commission of Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

The Kinesiotherapy Program is accredited by the American Kinesiotherapy Association.
