Academic Integrity

BACKGROUND

USM adopted the Academic Integrity Policy in 2016.  In order to ensure that all students are aware of the contents of the policy, USM requires that all students complete a course explaining USM's definition of academic integrity, the XF grade and appeals available to students charged with an academic integrity violation.

POLICY:The Southern Miss Academic Integrity Policy includes:

  • Our University’s definitions of “academic misconduct”;
  • Sanctions imposed for academic misconduct, including the “XF” grade;
  • Consequences of receiving an XF; and Processes for appeal in cases of alleged misconduct.

Students at the University of Southern Mississippi are responsible for understanding and following this policy. All students will be required to complete an educational online module regarding academic integrity, and additional workshops will be available through University Libraries for those who would like additional information.

WHEN IS THE HOLD APPLIED

On the 32nd day of the semester, students who have not previously completed the Academic Integrity course will be assigned the course for completion.

TIMELINE FOR COMPLETION

All students must complete the Academic Integrity course at the latest by the last date of the semester.

If a student fails to complete the Academic Integrity course by the last date of the semester, a hold will be placed on their account.

The All Services hold that will be applied will prevent you from among other things obtaining a transcript, registering from class and/or applying for graduation.
