What is FERPA?

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is the Federal law providing for the protection of student educational records. FERPA prohibits the disclosure of "protected information" which includes:

All schools receiving funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education must comply with FERPA.
