Paul Walters
Director of Compliance and Ethics 

Paul Walters joined The University of Southern Mississippi as its first Director of Compliance and Ethics in August 2012.  He also serves as Associate General Counsel for the University. 

Previous Experience:

Prior to joining the University, Paul was in private law practice for seven years and with the United States District Court, Southern District of Mississippi and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit for a combined total of twenty-two years.


Paul received a B.B.A. degree in Banking, Finance, and Economics from the University of Mississippi in 1980 and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1983.

He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the Society of Compliance and Ethics Professionals and the National Clery Compliance Officers and Professionals.

Jennifer S. Lewis
Compliance Coordinator

Jennifer has served as USM's first Compliance Coordinator since mid-September, 2015.  She joined the University in 2014 as an iTech Business Analyst and in that capacity worked with the Office of Compliance and Ethics to implement the Online Compliance Training Program. 

Previous Experience:

Prior to joining USM, Jennifer served as the Senior Business Analyst and Learning Administrator for Novant Health in Charlotte, NC for almost five years as well as subsequently serving as a technology analyst contracted out to TIAA-CREF. For several years prior thereto, she served as the paralegal to T. Travis Medlock, former South Carolina Attorney General and also previously served as the paralegal to Edward Knox of Knox, Knox, Freeman, and Brotherton. 


Jennifer received a B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, a paralegal certificate from Midlands Community College in Columbia, South Carolina, attended a year and a half of law school at the University of Tulsa (during which she served as a member of the Older American's Law Project as well as serving as a research assistant), obtained her  Masters in Adult Education from the University of Phoenix and received her Masters in Healthcare Administration from Pfeiffer University.  Ms. Lewis completed her Business Administration Certificate at USM in 2016.  Currently, Ms. Lewis has begun working on her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration with an emphasis in Student Affairs here at USM.


During her time at Pfeiffer, Ms. Lewis conducted research that was ultimately published in the Disability Journal and presented at the international Unite for Site Conference held at Yale.  Ms. Lewis previously authored a chapter in the book Epigenetics, the Environment, and Children's Health Across Lifespans and is working on a chapter on disability barriers for a refereed book to be published by Springer in 2019.
