Computer Engineering Technology Emphasis and Minors

Computer Engineering Technology is an interdisciplinary field of study that crosses into several other fields of study. This provides the students with opportunities for minors in these fields.

The CET program consists of a general core that is complemented by the following emphasis areas or courses:

  • Microprocessors
  • Microcontrollers
  • Embedded Computers
  • Computer Interfacing
  • Computer Architecture
  • Computer Programming
  • Advanced Programming Devices

For more Engineering focused students we recommend these two minors.

Minor in Automation Engineering

Automation Engineering is unique. It is the study how to build self-operating machines and how to develop self-operating systems. It merges the fundamentals of electrical, electronic, mechanical, environmental, computer, information and instrumentation engineering.

The requirements for a minor in Automation Engineering require a total of 18 hours as follows:

230/L Instrumentation Lab 2 hrs
396 Engineering Laboratory Internship 3 hrs
499 Undergraduate Research 3 hrs
316 Digital Communication Systems 3 hrs
477/L Control Systems/Lab 4 hrs
478/L Digital Control Systems/Lab 3 hrs

Minor in Electronics Engineering Technology

The requirements for a minor in Electronics Engineering are a total of 19 hours including the following courses.

101/L Introductory Electronics 3 hrs
110/L Introduction to DC Circuits 4 hrs
200/L Assembly and Fabrication Laboratory 2 hrs
230/L Instrumentation Laboratory 2 hrs
311/L Application of Semiconductor Devices 4 hrs

Minor in Computer Science

Computer Engineering provides a merging between hardware and software throughout the major, a minor in Computer Science would expand the students programming abilities.

Required Courses:

101/L Computer Science 1 4 hrs
102 Computer Science 2 4 hrs
307 Data Structures and Algorithm Analysis  3 hrs

Additionally 9 hours of Computer Science classes are required. Recommended courses are: 203 ,204 ,300 ,305 ,306 ,309 ,317 ,320 ,408 ,410 ,411 ,412 ,413 ,414/L ,415 ,420 ,421 ,422 ,424 ,425 ,426 ,435 ,485 ,486. Course Descriptions
