Interior Design Survey Success 

Congratulations to Andrew Butler, Honors College student in the Interior Design program at the University of Southern Mississippi, for conducting a survey for the students, staff, and faculty members of the University of Southern Mississippi.  The survey, open for approximately one week, had almost 600 participant responses! Biltmore Ticket Fees Due Friday, February 27th 

The Southern Miss Interior Design Program scheduled a trip to visit Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, along with the historic Grove Park Inn and downtown Asheville area.

Interior Design Program to Host CEU 

The Southern Miss Interior Design Program was host to an ASID Continuing Education Credit (CEU) on April 14th at 6:00 in room 107 of the Kate Hubbard House (The Studio) at USM.  The topic was “What does Culture have to do with Color"  (0.1 CEU credits).

Annual Student Art Show 2009 

Interior design students were awarded in interior design categories, as well as studio art categories, for the student art show. This annual event was held March 26th - April 9th at the University of Southern Mississippi Museum, located on the first floor of the Fine Arts Building.

Open House 2009

James Polk Designs a Sustainable Head Start 

Local architect and Interior Design Program adjunct faculty member, James Polk, has developed a sustainable design that will prove to be innovative for the P.A.C.E. Head Start program of Hattiesburg.

ASID Career Day 

The 2009 ASID Student Career Day, held on February 6th-7th at the University of Southern Mississippi's Thad Cochran Center, proved to be a success for Southern Miss! Not only were the facilities outstanding, the Southern Miss Interior Design Program students placed in several categories, winning the majority of the awards in this regional student competition.

Marie Scaffidi Elected ASID Student Representative to the Board 

Southern Miss Interior Design Program student and NKBA President Elect, Marie Scaffidi was elected to serve as the 2009-2010 Student Representative to the Board for the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) South Central Chapter.

Elizabeth Jones Elected MCIDL Student Representative to the Board 

Southern Miss Interior Design Program student and ASID Student Chapter President Elect, Elizabeth Jones was elected to serve as the 2009-2010 Student Representative to the Board for the Mississippi Coalition for Interior Design Legislation (MCIDL).

Claire Hamilton Elected ASID Regional President 

Southern Miss Interior Design Interim Director Claire Hamilton, will serve as the 2009 president of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) South Central Chapter.

 The Capstone Survey! 

The Interior Design Capstone Course invited patrons, students, staff, and/or faculty of the University of Southern Mississippi to participate in their spring 2009 Capstone survey for the Cook Library Information Services renovation project.

ASID Career Day 

The 2009 ASID Student Career Day was held this year on February 6th-7th at the Thad Cochran Center at the University of Southern Mississippi.  Along with the trade show, students learned "How to Find Your Dream Job" from a top national interior design recruiter and obtained first hand information from the NCIDQ President.

ASID Speaker Series Presents Debbie Myers & Adam Graff 

The Southern Miss Student Chapter of American Society of Interior Designers welcomed Debbie Myers of Commercial Business Interiors (CBI) and Adam Graff, District Manager of National Furniture, as the first speakers for the 2009 Spring Speaker Series.

ID 490 Guest Speakers Larry Lee and Susie Hebert 

Larry Lee, USM Chief Sustainability Officer spoke at 9:00am for the ID 490 Capstone course, followed by Susie Hebert, USM Office of Disability Accommodations at10:30am at the Studio!

Writing Center Open House 

The open house for the new Southern Miss Writing Center located in Cook Library, designed by interior design faculty member and interim director Claire Hamilton, was held Tuesday, September 16th from 3:30-5:00 p.m.

ASID Student Chapter Welcome Back Party

Claire Hamilton Participated in ASID CLC '08 

Interim Director, Claire Hamilton,  participated in the ASID CLC '08  in Calgary, Canada held July 23-27 for training to become the 2008-2009 ASID South Central Chapter President-Elect. 

Michelle Rose Teaching New Interior Design Computer Course Using BIM Technology 

Assistant Professor, Michelle Rose, has developed a new course, ID 311, Advanced Visual Literacy in Interior Design, utilizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, Photoshop, SketchUp, and other 3-D and graphic presentation applications. Initially taught as a fall mini session in August 2008, ID 311 will be offered in the regular fall 2008 semester.
