Housing - Comprehensive Housing Counseling

The process of becoming a home owner can be overwhelming to first-time home buyers. The Institute  for Disability Studies (IDS) provides face-to-face pre-purchase counseling to potential home buyers. A Home Buyer Education Class   A homebuyer education class is required, and a post-purchase counseling to HOYO home owners across the state. As part of the counseling, credit action plans are developed for individuals who need to resolve their barriers to housing before becoming home owners.

IDS provides counseling to individuals with disabilities and families who have family members with disabilities living in their home. IDS provides telephone or face-to-face housing counseling in different areas of the state via

  • One-on-one pre-purchase homebuyer counseling
  • Section 8 home ownership voucher counseling
  • Group setting 8-hour homebuyer education classes
  • Post-purchase to HOYO clients, as needed

Comprehensive Housing Counseling has been provided in a sub-recipient grant awarded by the Mississippi Home Corporation via support from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
