MECIC Quality Training

Mississippi Early Childhood Inclusion Center

Professional development opportunities are offered throughout the state of Mississippi in conjunction with MDHS and MDE. Quality trainings are available to independent agencies, early education centers, First Steps, Head Start, local and state early childhood associations, and other state agencies. Quality trainings are developed annually with a variety of topics to assist early childhood centers and schools with inclusion efforts.

Statewide professional development opportunities include:

Embedded Literacy Activities that Embrace Individual Differences is a two hour interactive training that will demonstrate how teachers can use children’s literature as a teaching tool to promote understanding of individual differences while utilizing strategies that promote early childhood literacy development. Participants will learn teaching strategies that promote early literacy development while teaching acceptance, empathy, and inclusion.

Building Connections to Support Positive Behavior in the Early Learning Classroom is a two hour training that focuses on creating healthy teacher-child relationships as the foundation of learning and guidance. Participants will learn how the relational interactions they have every day with children affect how a child forms friendships, expresses emotions, deals with conflict, and learns right from wrong.

Supporting Directors of Inclusive Early Learning Centers is a special 4 hour training program designed specifically for directors, owners, and assistant directors.  This two hour training includes a follow-up technical assistance visit in-which MECIC will help address specific questions and needs of individual centers.  Participants will gain a better understanding of policies and procedures that support early childhood inclusion; including the director’s role in supporting teachers and families.  This is an engaging training that will have participants learning together.

Additional professional development opportunities include:

Healthy Babies: Supporting Infants & Toddlers who are Dysregulated is a two hour training that will address the importance of supporting social and emotional development in infants and toddlers. Participants will learn practices that address the needs of infants and toddlers who are dysregulated, and will learn strategies that build relationships and help the child engage with his or her world.

Follow ME: Monitoring Development in Early Childhood is a two hour training that will address development monitoring, include "Learn the Signs. Act Early" Autism resources from the CDC, and discuss the referral process for providers and families.
