Pediatric Evaluation and Developmental Services

Pediatric Evaluation and Developmental Services (PEDS) is a comprehensive developmental evaluation team that is made up of multiple professionals (PDF) trained to evaluate a child's play, interactions, communication, cognition, movement, emotions and sensory integration. Our evaluations are for children ages birth through 5 years and include:

  • A diagnostic evaluation when there is concern of a developmental delay and/or autism spectrum disorder. If applicable, the diagnostic process includes administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and review of the DSM-5 Diagnostic Criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • An observation completed in a play room where team members observe the child as he or she plays and interacts with family and team members.
  • An observation completed in the home, or another location familiar to the child, can be helpful and may be completed if possible.
  • Video Review: The evaluation will be videotaped with your permission. The video will be reviewed by team members so they can evaluate your child's play and interactions in more detail.
  • A comprehensive evaluation report detailing the teams' findings and recommendations.
  • Referrals to other health care providers/agencies following a discussion and review of available options, resources and family needs.
  • Family Participation: Family participation is a vital part of the PEDS program which is founded on the guiding principles that:

-THE FAMILY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF A CHILD'S LIFE!
-Warm and responsive relationships between caregivers and children form the foundation for development.
-Children learn throughout the entire day during social interactions with people who are important to them.
-Early education and early intervention are critical for optimal development and learning.

Please note that, currently, the team is only able to complete a limited number of evaluations based upon funding. For more information about who is eligible for an evaluation, please call.
