Opportunities for Professionals
The Children’s Center for Communication and Development holds workshops throughout the year on a variety of topics, including:
- Phonological therapy in a group setting
- Using storytelling in language therapy
- The non-compliant child
- Augmentative/alternative communication
Individual training sessions may also be available by arrangement, based on specific needs.

Child Hearing Loss Summit: Developing a Plan for Success

The Children’s Center for Communication and Development at The University of Southern Mississippi will host the second annual Hearing Loss Summit for early oral interventionists on Friday, September 23, 2016.
Under the theme of "Developing a Plan for Success," this day-long workshop will provide participants with a deeper understanding for hearing loss, the management of equipment, creating a positive listening environment to develop spoken language, and developing speech skills for functional spoken language.
This course is offered for 0.6 ASHA CEUs (Intermediate level; Professional area.)
Fall Symposium: Press Play - Explore and practice communication strategies that work
Friday, November 11 // Cost: $50 // CEUs .7
This day-long symposium will focus on children with complex communication needs, who require multiple modes of communication to participate in essential learning opportunities. The whole child, including parent and family interactions, are pertinent to the programming and implementation of educational goals.
Participants will have an opportunity to learn from The Children's Center's specialized therapy team through reviewing video case studies, as well as through participating in active and collaborative dialogue.

NOTE: Participants may be awarded CEUs for these learning opportunities from only one organization: American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and Educators (The University of Southern Mississippi). ASHA CEUs are offered at no additional cost. Educators is $20 and can be paid at event check-in.
