Eagles Write! is USM’s celebration of student writing, which coincides with the National Day on Writing in October. The National Day on Writing seeks to recognize and celebrate all forms of writing and their authors. At USM, we want to do the same. Much of the work in the Composition classroom is building a community of writers to help students better understand that writing is a social act and that language is power. Our celebration, Eagles Write!, not only celebrates our students’ hard work and ingenuity, but also helps them to see the public work of the texts they produce. We want to recognize them as the authors they are. Therefore, the Eagles Write! celebration consists of a month-long, public exhibit of nominated student writing (displayed in Cook Library Learning Commons) and culminates in a student reading and reception in October.
