Bio

Maggie Williams is an instructor in the School of Communication. In 2019, the first edition of her textbook, "Literacy Skills for the Mass Media" was published by Cognella Academic Publishing. She began teaching as an adjunct faculty member at USM in the mid-1980s while a newspaper reporter with the Hattiesburg American. She also worked as news editor for the USM Public Relations Office from 1994-1998 prior to joining the school full time in 1998 as its publication manager, a position she held until 2010. She is an award-winning writer and has judged writing competitions for high school, collegiate and professional writing contests nationwide. She is active in the community as a member of the board of the Library of Hattiesburg, Petal and Forrest County and as a member of the Pine Belt Master Gardeners.
