Dr. Maria Conti Maravillas

Assistant Professor

Bio

I am an Assistant Professor of English and the Writing Center Director at The University of Southern Mississippi. My experience and specialties are in writing centers, multicultural pedagogies, writing program administration, summer bridge programs, and composition theory and pedagogies. As a teacher, researcher, and administrator, I focus on the transition to college, particularly through student engagement in composition courses and success programs.

My most current research project examines student transitional experiences to higher education in summer bridge programs and the deficit discourse embedded in these programs. This research seeks to develop a more inclusive university space for all students. My work has been published in Composition Forum and Community Literacy Journal.
