McNair Scholars Program - Eligibility

Only institutions of higher education and combinations of institutions of higher education are eligible to apply for the McNair Scholars Program grant awards. If you have further questions about institutional eligibility, please contact OPE_TRIO@ed.gov.

  • U.S. Department of Education regulations specify that students who qualify for the McNair Scholars Program must be enrolled in a degree-granting program at an eligible institution. • The University of Southern Mississippi McNair Scholars Program additionally specifies that participants must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, be committed to pursuing and completing a PhD, and stay in the program until graduation.
