|SUBMIT APPLICATION FOR DEGREE|
Student submits Application for Degree via your SOAR Self-Service account and updated Plan of Study. Student must complete Exit Survey via your SOAR Self Service account.
Please note: A late fee will be assessed if the Application for Degree is submitted after the published deadline as set by the Registrar's Office. No Application for Degree for dissertation, thesis, or doctoral nursing capstone students will be accepted after the 10th day of the graduation term.

|SUBMIT TITLE PAGE|
Last day for student to submit title page (via email) to the reviewer. Click on link. Read the instructions provided there and then use one of the two title page templates found in Step 1 to create your title page. Submit as an email attachment in Word format. The reviewer will send you an approved version of the title page with instructions on how to use it.
Defense of the proposal and submission of the approval form must occur no later than the end of the semester immediately preceding the final defense of thesis/dissertation/nursing capstone project.***
The Graduate Committee Request form should already be on file in the Graduate School.***
|SUBMIT ORAL DEFENSE OF THESIS RESULTS OR DISSERTATION FORM|
|Last day to submit results of Oral Defense of Thesis or Dissertation form to the Graduate Degree Auditor in the Graduate School (Nursing Capstones use dissertation form). See Progress to degree forms.|

|SUBMIT THESIS, DISSERTATION OR NURSING CAPSTONE PROJECT|
Last day for students to submit thesis, dissertation, or nursing capstone project to the reviewer. Guidelines and instructions for formatting can be found in Step 2 of this website. The USM templates can be found in Step 3 of the same website. Instructions on how to submit the defended document to the reviewer can be found under Step 5 of the same website. If your document is defended and formatted before the deadline, go ahead and turn it in.

|Last day for student to submit two Final Signed Title Pages to the Reviewer. Title pages must be approved by the Reviewer before signatures are obtained following a successful defense. See deadline above for obtain approval of the title page. Instructions regarding paper type and more will be provided by the Reviewer when title page is approved. Resubmit title page for approval if there are any changes made between the time of the first approval and use of the title page. ***|

|Last day to submit final Reviewer approved copies of thesis, dissertation, or nursing capstone project to the Reviewer. Consult the checklist for due dates given by the Reviewer at each stage of the reviewing process. The review process is likely to take 2-4 steps. |
Depending upon when the document is first received and the speed and accuracy of revisions, it is likely to be finished before this date.***
|SUBMIT COMPREHENSIVE EXAM RESULTS FORM (NON-THESIS MASTER'S AND SPECIALIST'S STUDENTS)|
|Last date to submit comprehensive exam results form for master's and specialist's students NOT writing thesis.|
Faculty submit change of grade forms for "I" grades.
* No exceptions to the deadlines are permitted.
** August graduates will participate in the December Commencement ceremony. August degree candidates should adhere to the summer deadlines.
*** Psychology MA or PhD candidates who are leaving to complete an internship should contact the Reviewer at least four weeks prior to dissertation/thesis defense as these deadlines will be adjusted for these students. Call 601.266.4372.
Proposals must be completed and approved no later than the semester that precedes the expected thesis, dissertation, or nursing capstone project defense. The proposal form must be received by the Graduate School immediately after the proposal has been approved. Proposals that take place between semesters will be counted as taking place in the semester that follows.
The proposal should be completed and approved before any research begins for the thesis, dissertation, or nursing capstone project.
The proposal cannot be approved within the same semester as the thesis, dissertation, or nursing capstone project defense. Students who have applied for degree, but have not completed their proposals will defer to a future semester.
Students should check with the Graduate Degree Auditor in the Graduate School at least one semester before proposed graduation semester to be sure all requirements have been met and that all required paperwork has been received. See the Graduate Bulletin for requirements not listed here.
Please monitor your USM student email account (usm.edu not firstname.lastname@example.org) through the end of your final semester for emails from the Graduate School.
