Recyclethon Overview

The Office of Sustainability is sponsoring Recyclethon again this year, and we encourage all members of the Southern Miss community to participate.  Recyclethon is a competition between students, faculty, and staff to see who can recycle the most items by weight within a four-week period.  The weights will also be entered into the national collegiate RecycleMania competition, so this is a great way to take Southern Miss to the Top!

 Dates:  February 19 – March 11, 2016

Teams:  There will be two divisions:  Student and Faculty/Staff.  To qualify as a student team, all members must be students.  Each team will consist of no more than 5 members, and teams will only compete with others in their division.

How it Works:  Each team will collect as much recyclable material as possible for a weekly weigh-in to be held each Friday during the competition period from 10am-2pm in Shoemaker Square.  Winners will be determined by the highest cumulative weight submitted by each team.

Prizes:  The first place team members in each division will be awarded their choice of a $100 Barnes & Noble gift card or $100 in Eagle Dining Dollars.  In addition to the first place team prizes, the top department and residence hall will be awarded a beautiful trophy created by Southern Miss art professor Jennifer Torres.  These are travelling trophies which can be displayed by the winning department and hall until the next year’s competition.
