Computer Requirement

All graduate and undergraduate students entering the College of Business and Economic Development (CBE) are required to own a laptop computer. For CBE minors and certificate programs, please contact the specific department. All students taking CBE online courses are required to have access to a computer and the Internet.

Students are permitted to select any computer that meets the minimum system requirements as specified below.  Students should note that these are the minimum requirements expected for use during their College of Business and Economic Development studies.

*Students using Apple laptops may also be required to purchase, install, and configure a virtual machine (e.g. VMWare or Parallels) with the required Microsoft Operating System and software.

NOTE: Tablets (e.g. Apple iPads, Microsoft Surface), E-readers, netbooks (e.g. Google Chromebook), and mobile devices are not sufficient to meet this requirement.  Touch screen laptops are generally discouraged.

If the laptop will also be for personal use - movies, music, and additional software - then students are encouraged to go beyond the minimum requirements to meet their expected needs.  Recommended upgrades are as follows:

  • Memory - 8GB RAM
