The office has information about scholarships, grants, loans, and veterans’ educational benefits. The office operates under the auspices of the federal, state, and institutional regulations for the respective programs.

FAFSA Time 2018-2019

The 2019-2020 FAFSA will be available starting October 1, 2018.  This is for the academic year Fall 2019, Spring 2020, and Summer 2020. It will utilize the 2017 year tax information. Learn how this will help students

Spring Financial Aid (for new transfer students)

Students who wish to receive federal financial assistance for the spring semester that did not have aid at Southern Miss during Fall 2018 must complete the 2018-2019 FAFSA and a spring application on SOAR. Learn more here.

Loan Processing
If you have never received a Federal Direct Stafford Loan but plan on doing so for the 2018-2019 school year, you must complete Entrance Loan Counseling and a Master Promissory Note online at You will need your FSA ID  you used to complete the FAFSA in order to complete these steps.

Key dates for students enrolling for the 2019-2020 year:

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid for 2019-2020 is available online beginning October 1, 2018.

Apply for Foundation Scholarships for 2019-2020.  The deadline to apply is February 15, 2019.  You may apply online at


Apply for 2019-2020 scholarships from the State of Mississippi.  Several scholarships have a March 31, 2019 deadline. Deadline for MTAG and MESG is September 15, 2019.
