Run for an Office on the 2014/2015 Student Government Association!
The deadline for applications for the 2014/2015 SGA is March 7th, 2014 by 5PM. Student's will receive an email regarding their application status. Upon receipt and acknowledgment of approved candidacy, students can begin campaigning.
What We Do:
The purpose of the SGA is to promote fellowship and loyalty within the student body, as well as fostering a sense of school spirit. We provide a cooperative atmosphere in which to work with faculty, students and administration to present student issues and concerns with a focus on education and quality of life.
What We Expect:
All elected members serve a one year term. Elected members are expected to attend SGA meetings, serve on SGA committees, and represent the student body at campus functions.
President: Chief Executive Officer of the SGA and official spokesperson of the Student Body.
Vice President: Monitors the activities of SGA Committees to promote the agenda of the SGA President.
Attorney General: Serves as Chief Parliamentarian to assure the rules of the SGA are enforced.
Treasurer: Administers the financial affairs of the SGA in an orderly manner.
Secretary: Maintains the minutes of all meetings, updates minutes on SGA webpage and maintains official SGA correspondence.
Activities Chair: Serves as Executive Officer of the Activities Board.
Representatives: Responsible for presenting the views, concerns and opinions of their respective colleges and the student body at large; Serves on SGA Committees.
The SGA elects two representatives from each College and one At-Large graduate student representative.
Requirements to Run for Office:
Full requirements for running for office can be found within the SGA Constitution and the Election Guide. At a minimum SGA candidacy requires:
1. Be enrolled full or part time as a student in good standing at The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast.
2. Not be on academic probation for any reason.
3. For executive positions, have at least a cumulative 2.75 GPA; for general council positions, have at least a cumulative 2.25 GPA.
