Thomas Lipscomb, Ph.D.

Professor

 

Dr. Thomas Lipscomb currently holds the rank of Professor in the Department of Educational Studies Research and Administration. He earned the B.A. degree in psychology from Louisiana State University in New Orleans (now UNO) and the M.S. degree in psychology from the University of New Orleans. He holds the Ph.D. degree in psychology with a specialization in developmental psychology from LSU. Dr. Lipscomb is licensed to practice psychology in the State of Louisiana. At USM he has served as Associate Dean in the College of Education and Psychology and as Co-chair of the Department of Educational Studies Research and Administration. He is also Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) where he served as Head of the Department of Psychology. Dr. Lipscomb held the rank of Professor in both Psychology and Marketing at SLU. He is a recipient of the President’s Award for Teaching Excellence at SLU. While in Louisiana Dr. Lipscomb was an affiliate member of the graduate faculty at Louisiana State University (LSU). He was also active as a psychologist as a member of the medical staff at a comprehensive regional medical center and as supervisor of psychological services for a public school district among other applied activities.

Current Research Interests

Dr. Lipscomb’s current research interests are in the areas of access to mental health services and the study of wisdom.
