11.11.16 Network Outage

    There will be a network outage in Century Park North, Cook Library, Forrest County Hall, International Center, Southern Hall, West Football Stadium and Walker Science Building on Friday, November 11 from 2:00 – 5:00 a.m. due to network upgrades. All network access (Hardwire, Wireless, VoIP, Email) will be down throughout the building during this window.

    10.21.16 Beware of Phishing/Spam Emails

    Recently, the campus community has been receiving phishing emails. The subjects of the email may include:


     The attachments will likely be labeled with some variation of Criminal_case_against_you_ and will either have a .zip or .rar file attachment. Please be advised this is a phishing/spam email attempting to steal your account credentials. Please do not open these emails or click on any links. If you have done so, please contact the Help Desk at 601.266.4357(HELP) as soon as possible. 

    Cisco Voicemail System Update

    The university will have a scheduled maintenance update for the Cisco voicemail system on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 9-9:30 p.m. There may be a momentary outage while services are being restarted. This update will affect users who receive voicemails through their email. The sender name will be updated from Cisco Unity Connection Messaging System to Southern Miss Messaging System. To prevent voicemails from Southern Miss Messaging System from going to the junk folder, please follow these directions.

    iSouthernMS Mobile updates

    The iSouthernMS Mobile application allows you to stay connected to Southern Miss anytime, anywhere with your iPhone or Android device. This application offers instant mobile access to keep you up to date on Southern Miss events, news, athletics, etc. The iSouthernMS mobile app has recently been updated with new features and a fresh, new look. We have added four personas: current student, future student, alumni and friends, and faculty and staff. The persona must be selected once and will default each time the application is started.

    There are also four new modules included in the update:

    • Blackboard Student - Blackboard’s newest mobile solution that helps students react quickly to their changing course needs, while learning to plan for the future.
    • Social -  Quickly access the university’s Twitter and Facebook accounts
    • Speak Up - This module encourages students to provide feedback and/or concerns to Student Government Association
    • Customize my navigation - This module allows our customers to place their most used modules at the top of their screen.

     If you do not currently have the iSouthernMS app on your phone, download it in the iTunes store for Apple devices and on Google Play for Android. 

    Sharing Documents in Microsoft Office 365 OneDrive

    OneDrive is cloud storage provided by Microsoft intended for storing and organizing work/educational related documents. All files stored in OneDrive are private initially unless you decide to share them. You can easily make a file available to everyone at the university by placing it in the "Shared with Everyone" folder, or you can share files with specified users for collaborative projects. Currently, the university does not allow you to share files with external users. 

    Alternatively, if you want to ensure that you are not sharing sensitive files or data you believe should be private, please follow these steps:

    1. Open an internet browser. 
    2. Navigate to “” 
    3. Select the “OneDrive” icon.
      a. Review the sharing column and make sure the correct permissions are applied. 
      b. Select the “Shared with Everyone” folder and ensure the data in that folder is data you want to share with everyone.
