Computer Exchange Program

Notice: Due to university budget cuts, the Computer Exchange Gold Program will be closed effective July 1, 2016, until further notice.

Service Description

The Computer Exchange Program is designed to help the university reduce spending and to provide an alternative to purchasing a new computer. With the exchange of a computer of any age and a service charge, departments may obtain a Green computer under 6 years of age.

Eligibility

All faculty/staff are eligible to participate in the CEP Green Program, which provides pre-owned/out of warranty computers under six years of age. Student employees are eligible to participate in the CEP Green Program, but a faculty/staff employee must complete the request form on their behalf.

Please note that GCRL employees are not currently eligible to participate due to the way Property Accounting controls inventory.

To request service

If you meet the eligibility requirements for either a Gold program computer or a Green program computer, you can complete a CEP Request form at: SOAR>USM Utilities>USM ITech>Use>CEP Request.

Availability

The Computer Exchange Program request form is online in SOAR. To check on availability, please contact the Computer Exchange Program administrators.

Related charges

There is a $100 service fee charged to the department of a qualified faculty or staff member to receive a computer through the CEP Green Program. The service fee is reduced to $50 if the participating employee chooses to exchange a computer with their request.

The Green Program is self-funded, approved by cabinet, and administered through iTech.

Special non-standard equipment and peripherals are available at an additional charge for recipients of Green computers.
