This section will take you step-by-step to secure your Office 365 account using both Microsoft Authentication application and phone call. Once successfully configured, you will be able to gain access by authenticating your account using either the application or a phone call. Using your office phone number will not be beneficial as you will only be asked to authenticate when you are away from your office.
Step 1: Complete all steps for "Set-Up MFA via Microsoft Authenticator Application."
Step 2: Sign in to Office 365 by visiting myapps.microsoft.com. User must log-in using their wEmplID@usm.edu and their campus password.
Note: In the above prompt, enter your wEmplID@usm.edu. wEmplID means the letter "w" followed by your employee/student ID number. USM employee/student ID numbers are either 6 or 8 digits. Examples of wEmplID are w123456 (if your EmplID is 6-digits) and w12345678 (if your EmplID is 8-digits).
Step 3: In the below prompt, enter wEmplID@usm.edu and your university password. See
notes above for further clarification of wEmplID.
Step 4: In the top right corner, select the icon.
Step 5: When the below menu appears, select "Profile."
Step 6: Under the "Manage Account" section, select the "Additional Security Verification"
Step 7: In the below screen, confirm the box labeled "Authentication phone" is checked
and the the phone number associated with this field is a number that is accessible
Note: If the box was already checked along with the desired phone number, no further action is required. Remember to click "Save" if any changes are made.
Congratulations! You have completed your MFA setup using both your phone as well as the authentication application as the authentication factors.
