This section takes you step-by-step to secure your Microsoft 365 account using the Microsoft Authenticator app and phone call. Once successfully configured, you will be able to gain access by authenticating your account using either the authentication app or a phone call.
Note: You should not use your office phone for MFA.
Step 1: Complete all steps for "Set-Up MFA via Microsoft Authenticator App."
Step 2: Sign-in to Microsoft 365 by visiting myapps.microsoft.com. Note: You must log-in using your wEmplID@usm.edu and CampusID password. wEmplID means the
letter "w" followed by your employee/student ID number. USM employee/student ID numbers
are either 6 or 8 digits. Examples of wEmplID are w123456 (if your EmplID is 6-digits)
and w12345678 (if your EmplID is 8-digits).
Step 3: Select the circle at the top right corner.
Note: Depending on your setting, you may see your photo or initials.
Step 4: When the below menu appears, select "View Account."
Step 5: On the "Security info" tile, select "Update info."
Step 6: On the below screen, select "Add Method."
Step 7: From the dropdown menu, select "Phone" and select the "Add" button.
Step 8: Enter a phone number that is accessible off-campus and select "Next" button.
Step 9: When the below screen appears, you will receive a call. Enter "#," when prompted.
Step 10: Select "Done."
Congratulations! You have completed your MFA setup using both your phone and authentication
app.
