Did you know that Mississippi is home to over 280 species of inland fishes and many more coastal fishes? This camp will explore the diversity of fishes in Mississippi and will introduce kids to a variety of careers involving fish including fish ecology, taxonomy, fisheries management, and pond management. In addition to learning about fish students will have opportunities to catch fish!  Junior anglers will get to fish on Tuesday and Friday of the camp (campers must provide their own reels and rods) and will learn how to seine fish as well.  Backpack electroshock techniques will also be demonstrated.  Students will also get a chance to tour the Thad Cochran Aquaculture Center at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs.  The week will end with a family fish fry on the last day of camp. If your kid loves to fish, then this is the camp for them!

This summer camp is a Monday-Friday, day camp hosted at the Lake Thoreau Environmental Center. Check-in will be between 7:30 and 8:30 A.M. each day and checkout will occur between 4:45 and 5:30 P.M.
