Let's Build Hattiesburg! STEAM Camp: Creating a Sustainable City for All

June 5 - June 9, 2017

Rising 3rd through 6th Grade Students

Cost: $250 or $225 (without lunch provided)

Friends of Lake Thoreau receive either a 10% or 20% discount!

Imagine if you could rebuild your city from the ground up.  This camp will introduce kids to all of the STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) elements involved with planning and building a community.  We will begin by learning a bit about the history of Hattiesburg and trying to understand how the 'Burg came to be.  Campers will meet planners, engineers, architects, scientists, artists, and many other people who are necessary for planning and creating a vibrant city.  We will immerse kids in real-time developments such as the Midtown Development and have them see how their city grows first hand.  Each day we will visit different components of Hattiesburg and kids will get to create their own model version of Hattiesburg as the week progresses. If your child is interested in engineering or architecture then they will have a blast at this camp!

This summer camp is a Monday-Friday, day camp hosted at the Lake Thoreau Environmental Center. Check-in will be between 7:30 and 8:30 A.M. each day and checkout will occur between 4:45 and 5:30 P.M.
