Timothy J. Tesh

Assistant Professor of Trumpet


Dr. Timothy J. Tesh is the newest member of the University of Southern Mississippi faculty, having accepted the position of Assistant Professor of Trumpet beginning in the Fall semester of 2016.  Dr. Tesh is relocating to Mississippi after a successful career as a freelance trumpeter and music educator in the Los Angeles area.  He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance and music education at the University of Southern California in 2012.  Dr. Tesh also received a Master of Music degree in trumpet performance from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Arts in music from Mars Hill College. 

Timothy recently performed as a member of the internationally renowned brass quintet, Presidio Brass, and has had the distinct pleasure of performing with Stevie Wonder, Natalie Cole, Patti Austin, Take 6, Quincy Jones, Dave Koz, Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, and many other music greats.  He has also toured throughout the United States and Canada with Mel Brooks’ award-winning Broadway musical, The Producers, where he served as principal trumpet.  Dr. Tesh can also be heard playing lead trumpet on the Grammy-nominated album Self-Contained with the University of Kentucky Jazz Ensemble.
