Many of our alumni have gone on to successful careers as both educators and performers. These include three of our guest artists for 2010-2011: Tom Brantley (Professor of Trombone, University of South Florida), Tom “Bones” Malone (professional jazz musician) and Steve Wiest (Associate Professor of Jazz Studies, University of Denver). Other alumni include Jason Booth (United States Navy Band-Norfolk, VA), Jonathan Holladay (United States Navy Forces Band - Hawaii), Steven Hooper (United States Navy Forces Band – Naples, Italy), Zach James (Instructor of Trombone, William Carey University), Michael Lormand (Freelance Musician- New York City), 1SG Tom MacTaggart (SHAPE International Bandmaster), Jerrick Matthews (professional jazz musician), Martin McCain (Associate Professor of Trombone and Jazz Studies, Texas State University- San Marcos), Wes Parker (Director of Jazz Studies, North Carolina State University), and Dr. Clifton Taylor (Associate Director of Bands at Mississippi State University). In addition, countless Southern Miss Trombone Studio alumni have gone on to lead and direct highly successful middle school and high school band programs throughout the South.
