Awards, Grants Available to Southern Miss Faculty, Staff Through Office of the Provost

Members of The University of Southern Mississippi faculty and staff are encouraged to apply for the following awards and grants available to them that are facilitated through the Office of the Provost.

*Aubrey Keith Lucas and Ellan Ginn Lucas Endowment for Faculty Excellence. Named for Southern Miss President Emeritus Dr. Aubrey Keith Lucas and his wife Ella, this endowment supports and rewards faculty excellence in instruction and research. *Sabbaticals for 2011-2012 Academic Year. Awarded to faculty for professional development and to assist them in achieving promotion in academic rank and enhance scholarly reputation. *Grand Marshal-Distinguished Professor Award. Nominees for this award, which recognizes a senior faculty member for exceptional teaching, research and service, must be submitted by Nov. 1. A vita of no more than five pages; a maximum of three pages summarizing accomplishments in teaching, research and service; and three letters of support must be submitted.  A committee will review this material and make its recommendation to the Office of the Provost by Nov. 19. The recipient is recognized and serves as grand marshal at all university commencement ceremonies for one calendar year.

*IHL Black History Month Educator of the Year.This honor recognizes a member of the Southern Miss faculty or staff who has demonstrated positive advancement of diversity on campus and within the university community. Full-time faculty or staff members with a minimum of three years of experience at Southern Miss are eligible. Nominations by faculty, staff, students and administrators will be accepted. *Excellence in University Service Award. This award is made to a faculty member with a minimum of three years experience at Southern Miss who has excelled in non-administrative service to the university. Nominations by faculty, staff or administrators are accepted (no self-nominations accepted). Recipients are not eligible to receive the award again for five years. Nominations should be sent by Nov. 1 to Susie Plymale in the Office of the Provost at susie.plymaleFREEMississippior by calling 601.266.6579

*Excellence in University Teaching Award. This award is made to a faculty member with a record of exceptional teaching. Full-time faculty members with a minimum of three years experience at Southern Miss are eligible. Nominations may be made by any faculty member or a student (no self nominations accepted). Recipients are not eligible to receive the award again for five years, and two-time winners of the award are ineligible. Nominations should be sent by Nov. 1 to Susie Plymale in the Office of the Provost (susie.plymaleFREEMississippi) or call 601.266.6579.
