Plans are well underway for the 2nd Annual National Sports Safety and Security Conference and Exhibition set for Aug. 2-4 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans.

Sponsored by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi, the 2011 event comes on the heels of a highly-successful inaugural conference held this past August at the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans. NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani announced that the theme for the 2011 conference is “Sports Safety and Security, A New Game.”

“Based on last year's attendance, there is growing interest in sport safety and security at the professional and collegiate settings,” said Marciani. “The conference and exhibition provides a wholesome environment for sport venue security personnel, event operators, first responders, manufacturers, government agencies and league security officials to learn more about security/safety technologies, products, services and education.”

The 2010 conference included a sell-out among vendors (43) and attendees (more than 300). NCS4 officials expect at least 400 attendees for the 2011 conference and have reserved space for as many as 56 exhibitors. The conference has already gotten a platinum sponsorship from Lauren Innovations, a worldwide leader in security technology.

The inaugural conference also featured keynote addresses by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano and retired U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré.

Established in 2006, the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security was created to provide an interdisciplinary academic environment to further increase sport security awareness, improve sport security policies and procedures and enhance emergency response through evacuation, recovery operations and crowd management training.
