Department of Psychology Advisement Center New Resource for Students

Wed, 11/10/2010 - 05:00pm | By: David Tisdale

An advisement center launched this semester by The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Psychology is a convenient resource for undergraduate students seeking assistance with course scheduling and issues related to graduation requirements.

Located in Owings-McQuagge Hall, room 220B, the center also offers students opportunities to meet with faculty mentors to discus career and graduate school plans. Students trying to decide on a major are also welcome to visit the center to learn about the opportunities a degree in psychology offers.

“The Center was developed to better and more readily serve the advising needs of the more than 575 psychology majors at the university,” said Dr. Emily Yowell, assistant professor of psychology who serves as director of the center. “With its convenient drop-in location, we believe it can meet this need.”

The Center also provides valuable training for students in the master's degree program in counseling psychology who desire to work in an academic setting after graduation, said Dr. Joe Olmi, chairman of the department.

“Dr. Yowell has provided stellar leadership in her design and implementation of the center, and she and her students are to be commended," Olmi said.
