The University of Southern Mississippi will close its 2010 Centennial Celebration with performances by the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Civic Chorale. Having performed earlier in the year to welcome the centennial, the chorale will now commemorate the special occasion with “Holiday Celebration – A Centennial Celebration.”

The first performance is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Fleming Education Center auditorium at the Southern Miss Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. The encore performance is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. in the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Biloxi.

The chorale will performMagnificat by Antonio Vivaldi featuring a string quartet. In addition to the featured performance, the chorale will sing traditional holiday favorites.

Now in its 16th year at Southern Miss, the chorale serves as a community outreach program welcoming all members of the Mississippi Gulf Coast community. More than 80 members sing in the ensemble, led by John Flanery, assistant choral director at Southern Miss.

The “Holiday Celebration – A Centennial Celebration” is free and open to the public. The Centennial Celebration is sponsored by BancorpSouth, Mississippi Power and Yates Construction. For more information, online visit www.usm.edu/gc/civic_chorale or call 228.865.4573.
