Issues + Answers Lecture Series to Feature Experts Panel on Oil Spill, Ecosystem

The Sun Herald and The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast will present the Issues + Answers lecture “Ecosystem at Risk? Implications of the Deepwater Horizon Incident on the Ecology of the North Central Gulf of Mexico” Thursday, July 29 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center in Ocean Springs. The lecture will feature a panel of experts from the Southern Miss Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.

The panel will feature Dr. Bill Hawkins, moderator; Harriet Perry on crustacean and shellfish life cycles; Jim Franks on finfish stocks; Dr. Joe Griffitt on aquatic toxicology; and Dr. Jay Grimes on biomediation. Following the panel discussion, the experts will be available for a question-and-answer session to address questions on how the Deepwater Horizon incident has impacted the biology of the North Central Gulf, how it works and the implications of this event.
