Memorial Service Scheduled for Retired Music Professor Roger Hill

A memorial service is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1 at Moore Funeral Home in Hattiesburg for Roger Hill, a former associate professor of piano and pedagogy at The University of Southern Mississippi, who died Friday at his home. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service.

A native of Kalamazoo, Mich., Hill served on the Southern Miss faculty for 38 years, retiring in 2003. He studied at Kalamazoo College as a young child and then earned bachelor's and master's degrees in music and a performance certificate from Indiana University, where he also completed postgraduate studies. 

Hill was a highly sought pianist at social and civic events throughout the Pine Belt, and served as a guest soloist with the Meridian Symphony, the Pensacola Symphony and the New Orleans Symphony. He was an active member of the USM Partner for the Arts,

He is survived by his lifelong friend, Billy Lewis of Hattiesburg; a nephew, David Morehouse; a niece, Kaye Hill Hutchins; and three cousins: Barbara Taylor, Joan Skinner and Marcia Price, all of Kalamazoo, Mich.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that memorial gifts be made to The USM Symphony Orchestra, 118 College Drive #5105, Hattiesburg MS  39406; or to The Southern Pines Animal Shelter, Box 2021, Hattiesburg, MS 39403.
