Southern Miss Gulf Coast to Host Insurance Forum Featuring Rep. Gene Taylor
LONG BEACH, Miss. – The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast will host “Gulf Coast Insurance Forum: What's Wrong with the Insurance Market Along the Gulf Coast and How Do We Fix It?” Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 9 a.m. in the Fleming Education Center auditorium at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach. Southern Miss Gulf Coast is presenting the event in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Business Council and the RAND Corporation
During the forum, RAND Corporation will present its latest report, "Residential Insurance on the U.S. Gulf Coast in the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina: A Framework for Evaluating Potential Reform." Following the presentation, a panel of insurance experts will discuss the current insurance market and the future of reform efforts.
Panelists include: Rep. Gene Taylor, Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana; Lenwood Brooks, legislative assistant for Sen. Roger Wicker; Lloyd Dixon, senior economist for the RAND Corporation; Dave Treutel, president of the Treutel Insurance Agency and member of the National Flood Insurance Program Advisory Council; and Jim McDonald, independent insurance consultant and RAND Corporation contributor.

Funk Transitions to Student Success Coordinator at Southern Miss Gulf Coast
LONG BEACH, Miss.– The University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Coast has named Mary Funk student success coordinator for the Department of Student Services, where she will provide career services to Southern Miss Gulf Coast students.
In her new role, Funk will guide students in career planning. Services include discussing links between possible majors and future career goals, assessing student interests and skills to identify occupations and careers, assisting students in finding available internships, and preparing them for future job searches.
