Osher Lifelong Learning Institute to Host Irish Storytelling Event

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at The University of Southern Mississippi will host an Irish storytelling event Monday, May 31 at 6 p.m. featuring famed performer Máirtín de Cógáin, a two-time winner of the All-Ireland storyteller award. The OLLI is located at 3601 Pearl St., just west of the Southern Miss Hattiesburg campus.
A native of County Cork, Máirtín is also a noted singer, drum player (the Irish bodhrán) and céilí/set dancer. His work can be seen with County Cork's The Fuchsia Band, Captain Mackey's Goatskin and Stringband with Jimmy Crowley and the brand new Máirtín de Cógáin Project, to be featured in a CD to be released this summer.
Máirtín is also an up-and-coming-actor, with a significant role in the 2006 Cannes Palm d' Or winner, “The Wind that Shakes the Barley.” He is bilingual, speaking both English and Irish Gaelic.
General admission to this event is $10 and $8 for OLLI members, Celtic Heritage Society members and Southern Miss faculty, staff or students with identification.
